NAMI Los Angeles County

Situation:
The Los Angeles chapter of NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) had been organizing NAMIwalks for several years, but didn’t have a formal program to boost awareness of its largest fundraiser.

Our Strategy:
EDK helped organize a public relations and social media marketing program for NAMI Los Angeles County, including promotions for Mental Health Awareness Month and the annual NAMIWalks, the largest mental health awareness and fundraising event in the country. The team helped secure media attention for the walk event, including collaboration with the Los Angeles Rams and other celebrities to participate as spokespeople and emcees.

The team also managed the social media presence for the NAMIWalks Los Angeles social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In addition to running both the organic and paid ad programs, EDK also designed various digital graphics for related websites and cinema.

Results:
Up until EDK’s involvement with NAMI in 2013, no prior media attention had been brought to the walk. EDK has successfully helped secure celebrity involvement every year, as well as secure media coverage from local news affiliates such as KTLA and KCBS. The walk raised over $500,000 in 2018, the highest amount for the county in its history.
